These aren't ruins

The Kome Cave Dwellings have been home to the same families for over 200 years. The mud walls you'll touch were built by hand into the cliff face during a time of war and drought — and they're still being used today.

Walking into Ha Kome feels less like sightseeing and more like being welcomed into someone's home — because that's exactly what it is. The residents will show you how the caves are structured, how they cook, how the space has changed across generations. It's one of the few places in Southern Africa where a National Heritage Site is also someone's front door.
