Where the weather is notoriously unpredictable

One minute it's clear skies and open grassland. The next, mist rolls in and the temperature drops without warning.

That unpredictability is exactly why the lake stays so untouched. It sits at 2,400 metres above sea level and is the only Ramsar-listed wetland where Wattled Cranes — one of Africa's most endangered birds — come to breed alongside grazing cattle.
