Southern Africa's only real ski slope, open through the winter months at Afriski Mountain Resort.
Afriski Mountain Resort sits at 3,222m in the northern Drakensberg-Maluti range, and it's home to the only proper ski slope in Southern Africa — a genuine surprise for most visitors who didn't know snow sport was on the continent at all.
Through the winter months, the resort runs two groomed slopes with rental gear and instructors on hand for first-timers, alongside a longer slope for anyone who already knows their way down a mountain.
If skiing isn't your thing, there's still plenty to do at altitude in the cold — tubing runs, snowball fights on a good snow year, and a mountain lodge with fires going to warm back up afterward.
